John G. Mathis is an American politician and member of the Republic of the Utah Representative Council representing District 55 since January 1, 2005.

Early life and career

Mathis holds a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and Veterinary Doctor from Colorado State University. Mathis lives in Vernal, Utah with his wife, Wendy, and she works as a veterinarian at Ashley Valley Veterinact Clinic PC.

Political career

2012 Mathis challenged but elected by Republican convention, and not elected for the 6 November 2012 general election, won by 12,252 votes.
2004 When District 55 Republican Representative Jack Seitz resigned and left the seat open, Mathis was elected by the Republican convention of two candidates for the 4-way general election, 2 November 2004, which he won with 9,560 votes (80.6%) against the Green candidate John Weisheit (nominating seat in 2002), Constitutional candidate Dale Flake, and Libertarian candidate Ronald Regehr.
2006 Mathis was unaffected for the Republican Party 2006 and won the November 7, 2006 general election against Dale's Constitutional candidate who resigned in 2004.
2008 Mathis fought for June 24, 2008 Republican and won four-way November 4, 2008 Elections with 9,622 votes (74.7%) against Democratic nominee Wayne Hoskisson, candidate for Constitution Daniel Ray, and back 2004 Green candidate Ronald Regehr.
2010 Mathis was unaffected for 22 June 2010, Republicans, and won 3-way general elections on 2 November 2010 with 7,632 votes (76.5%) against Democrat candidate Mike Binyon and candidate Constitution George Hill.

During the 2013 and 2014 legislative sessions, Representative Mathematics is in charge of the Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environmental Quality Subcommittees, the Government Operations Committee, the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment Committee, and the House Rules Committee. During the transitional period, Mathis served on the Interim Committee on Government Operations as well as the Interim Committee on Natural Resources, Agriculture, and the Environment. Mathis representatives are also members of the Rural Legislative Liaison Committee.
