Trafficking in Utah is an illegal trade of humans for the purpose of reproductive slavery, commercial sexual exploitation, and forced labor as it did in the state of Utah, and is widely recognized as a modern-day form of slavery. This includes "recruitment, transportation, transfer, concealment or acceptance of persons by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, kidnapping, fraud, fraud, abuse of power, or vulnerability positions, or from giving or receiving payments or benefits to reach agreement from someone who has control over others, for the purpose of exploitation Exploitation should include, at a minimum, the exploitation of prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or organ harvesting. " at a high level in Utah and growing.

On June 19, 1862, the United States committed illegal slavery in all US territories, including the Utah region, effectively abolishing the Law in Relation to the Service. Currently, the Mann Law and the Trafficking Victim Protection Act (TVPA), are used to prosecute trafficking cases in Utah that cross national borders. Under TVPA, human trafficking covers the exploitation of minors or the use of force, deception or coercion in adults. In 2008, Utah passed the Amendment of Human Trafficking to the Utah Code , which banned human trafficking in the state of Utah. Unlike TVPA, Utah defines trafficking as "forced labor or forced sexual exploitation". Unlike TVPA, Utah law does not make exceptions for minors. Because Utah needs proof of strength, even for minors, prosecution in Utah is very difficult. The Utah law also does not allocate funds to victims or give them special privileges. However, the Utah legislature is looking for an extension of existing legislation on human trafficking.

In 2012, Shared Hope International chose Salt Lake City as one of ten areas of in-depth study of child sex trafficking. The report criticized the handling of the domestic small sex trade in Salt Lake City. They said that the victims were arrested like bad boys, that buyers of sex acts from minors are not punished, and that training to identify victims of the sex trade is minimal. They note that although almost all interviewees have worked with child sex trafficking cases in the past two years, there has been little arrest. They point to weak laws.
Since the report was released, there have been cultural changes, and cases that have previously been dealt with as prostitution are now handled as human trafficking. This is partly because law enforcement is now better educated and lawmakers give them better tools to identify trafficking cases. In 2016, the Internet Crime Task Force (ICAC) assisted 71 arrests in Utah, as part of a human trafficking operation known as Operation Patah Hati III. The human trafficking ring is also known to operate from Bountiful, using hotels in Salt Lake City to sell their victims, and at a Thai massage parlor across from the Wasatch Front.
