Salt 'n' Shake is one of the oldest potato brands in the UK, originally produced by The Smith's Snackfood Company. They are best known for containing a blue sachet containing 0.6g of salt, allowing buyers to salt the chips to their own taste.
According to the package, Salt 'n' Shake was made by Frank Smith and was first sold in pubs in Cricklewood, London in the 1920s. Since the salt barn he provided was stolen by pub patrons, Smith began selling packages with a small piece of blue salt, a tradition that continues to this day. The brand is currently owned by Walkers.
Chips originally called Salt 'n' Shake, but are named Salt & amp; Beat during January 2003 was relaunched by Walkers. The relaunch, accompanied by an ad starring Gary Lineker, introduces the latest packaging of chips.
