Spring Air Company is a mattress company based in the United States. It was founded in Chicago in 1926 when Francis Karr patented the mattress design with a free-end coil. Due to heavy loads, high transportation costs, and low value per mattress weight unit, they are often locally produced. The company is a licensing organization, with local licensors making mattresses with common names for national marketing. Like a cooperative, license holders have the name Spring Air. Spring Air has factories all over the world.
As of 2006, this is the fourth largest US mattress brand (behind Sealy, Serta, and Simmons). It's based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

In 2007, Spring Air Company merged with Consolidated Bedding, Inc. Tampa, FL, the largest Spring Air license and at the same time acquire six other Spring Air licenses operating eight mattress manufacturing facilities in the United States. The integrated company will employ 1,150 employees in 14 locations, including its headquarters facilities that will remain in the Chicago area. This merger will strengthen Spring Air's position as a leading "S" brand on every retail floor. The manufacturing facilities obtained are located at: Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Chelsea, MA (Boston); Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; St. Louis, MO; Salt Lake City, UT; and Lacey, WA (Seattle). They will join the existing facilities at Bedding Consolidated at: Columbus, OH; Carrollton, TX (Dallas); City of Industry, CA (Los Angeles); New Brunswick, NJ; and Tampa, FL.
H.I.G. Capital LLC, a leading global private equity investment firm with more than $ 4 billion equity capital under management, provides equity financing for the transaction. In May 2009 the company that owns Spring Air name - Consolidated Bedding - went bankrupt.
Spring Air Name is then purchased by E & amp; E Bedding and converted into Spring Air International.
