Gale Sears is an American writer specializing in historical fiction. He has various Whitney Awards for his work. He is also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gale Sears was born in Lake Tahoe, California. He then moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he studied at William McKinley High School. Sears graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in scriptwriting. He then received a master's degree in theater art from the University of Minnesota. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married George Sears. The couple has two children and lives in Salt Lake City.

Sears started writing dramas when he was in college. His first novel was not published until 1997. He specializes in historical fiction. He chose to write his books by hand. Many of his books are centered around the female protagonist. His novels often feature elements of Mormonism and the Beliefs and practices of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He often juxtaposes church principles and government ideology.
To write his books, he spent hundreds of hours researching various historical and cultural events. To stay organized, he divided his research into folders. Sears was inspired to write his book The Silence of God after reading a magazine article on Lindlofs, a family of Latter-day Saints in Russia.
Awards
Sears has won several Whitney Awards in the Mormon Literature. His novel Letter at the Jade Dragon Box won the Whitney Award 2011 in History Fiction. In 2007, Upon the Mountains was the finalist for the Whitney Award in the Best Novel of the Year and in Best Historical Fiction. His book The Route was nominated for the Whitney Award at Best General Fiction in 2009. The Silence of God is the finalist in 2010 Fiction History, and his book > is a finalist for Whitney Award in History Fiction in 2013.
