Alamo Rent a Car is a car rental agency in the United States. Based in Clayton, Missouri, it has branches in North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Oceania.
Alamo was founded in Florida in 1974. In 1996, Alamo was acquired by Republic Industries (later renamed AutoNation). AutoNation separated its rental property as ANC Rental in 2000. ANC filed for bankruptcy a year later; property was sold to Vanguard Automotive Group (controlled by Cerberus Capital Management) in 2003. In 2007, Vanguard was acquired by Enterprise Holdings, operator of North America's largest rental company, Rent-A-Car Enterprise.

Complaints and criticism
Alamo Rent a Car has been criticized for not providing adequate access to/from terminal buildings to car rentals for wheelchair users; according to the US Department of Justice, Alamo is the subject of many such complaints; Alamo reached a settlement with the government regarding a complaint filed by the Department of Justice. There are reports on Washington Post about issues with customers returning the car after business hours; in one instance, the customer returns an undamaged car after hours, but Alamo claims that it's over and demands an additional $ 785; Alamo canceled claims after tenants threatened to take them to court. A report in Denver Post describes a snow-covered passenger who was billed $ 950 a day by Alamo around Christmas time in an example of a clear price bluster. There was a report in New York Times that the "medium" Alamo rental car was supposed to be "very small." A report at USA Today suggests that an increase in car rental rates, which averaged 4% by 2013, has driven many rental car users to switch taxis. Two auto safety advocacy groups petitioned the Federal Trade Commission in 2010 to ban Enterprise Holdings, the parent company of Alamo, from leasing an unrefined recall vehicle. Alamo was criticized at the New York Times for failing to provide information about insurance rates for his rental car on his website.
