Description

The station is located 700 North Terminal Drive (immediately south of the east end of Terminal 1), with the island platform extending southward from the terminal. Unlike many TRAX stations, the Airport does not have much Park and Ride. As part of the construction of this station, the unfulfilled Welcome Center is built right inside the entrance from the station to Terminal One, which includes a direct call to UTA's customer service and ticket kiosk. Like many other UTA stations, this station has artwork included in its design. The artwork for the Airport station is a fence separating the station from the highway approaching the terminal. The yellow fence was built to have a mountain sky view. It's called The Canyon and was designed by Gordon Huether from Napa, California. Although the station is 6 miles (9,7 km) from Downtown Salt Lake City, it is still closer to downtown than most airports serving major US cities. It takes about 20 minutes to travel from the Airport station to the city center. This station is part of a railroad made exclusively for the Green Line. The station opens on April 14, 2013, and is operated by the Transit Utah Authority.

All TRAX UTA and FrontRunner trains and stations, streetcar and streetcar stop, and all bus routes remain in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and are therefore accessible to persons with disabilities. Signage at stations, on passenger platforms, and on trains clearly indicates accessibility options. In accordance with the Clean Air Act of Utah and UTA regulations, "Tobacco is prohibited on UTA vehicles as well as UTA bus stops, TRAX stations, and FrontRunner station ".

Future plans

While the current Airport station is the northern terminal for the Green Line, UTA is finally planning to extend the TRAX path further west to the International Center. This extension will be connected to the bus rapid transit (BRT) lane that UTA will build in the near future along the 5600 West corridor. (The new BRT line is anticipated to also connect to the southwest tip of the TRAX Red Line in the Daybreak South Jordan area.) However, UTA also plans to eventually replace the entire (unbranded) BRT line with the TRAX line, but that is not projected until "2025 and so on "
