Histori
In June 2003, St. Clair McColl embarked on Salt Spring Air, with a local seaplane service based in the Gulf Islands with a four-seater Cessna 185. This airline service is targeted to the islanders, and personalized services are offered. Since then, with the introduction of de Havilland Beavers in 2004, the company's fleet has evolved into four aircraft that operate six scheduled flights from Salt Spring Island to Vancouver, and other unscheduled flights fly to other locations in the Gulf Islands. It remains the only airline based in Salt Spring Island.
During what started as a routine flight on March 19, 2007, McColl saved a father and son from the cold waters of the Georgian Strait after a passenger saw their boat upside down and told McColl. The pilot and two passengers were later honored by the British Columbia Rescue Board to save.
In November 2015, Salt Spring Air was purchased by the Harbor Air Seaplanes Group operating in the Air Sports Port with the Spring Name of Salt Water. The Salt Spring Air fleet now joins Harbor Air Seaplanes, Westcoast Air, and Whistler Air as the world's largest aircraft carrier.
