Description

FrontRunner runs south from Pleasant View to Provo with a total length of 88 miles (142 km). This name is most commonly distilled by UTA as F r o n t R u n e r .

This route uses a portion of the historic South Utah Railroad right, which was built in 1869 to connect the First Transcontinental Railway to Salt Lake City and was acquired by Union Pacific Railroad in 1878. The parallel path owned by UTA lines UP to Ogden, where UP and UTA shared the last 6 million (9.7 km) road to Pleasant View.

Most of the routes used by FrontRunner are tracked single (albeit running parallel with the UP tracks), with dual paths at the station and several other points along the route to allow the train to cross each other. FrontRunner is closely aligned to Interstate 15 for most routes.

There are about 25 round trips on weekdays between Ogden and Provo (via Salt Lake City). Trains leave every hour from about 4:30 to midnight on weekdays (increased to half hour for morning and evening). On Saturdays, trains run every hour from 6 am to 1:30 am on a Sunday morning. In August 2017, FrontRunner did not run for most of Sunday. FrontRunner operates several services on holidays other than Thanksgiving, Christmas and observed Christmas holidays, as well as New Year's Day and New Year holidays are observed. FrontRunner is a push-pull locomotive system (with the locomotive running backwards half the time). FrontRunner's train faces north, regardless of direction.

Every station (except North Temple Bridge/Guadalupe) has lots of Park & â € <â € < There is no parking fee in this parking lot, and the number of available parking spaces at each station ranges from "limited" to 874.

All TRAX UTA and FrontRunner trains and stations, streetcar and tram stops, and all bus routes remain, in accordance with America with Disabilities Act and therefore accessible to persons with disabilities. Because not all FrontRunner passenger cars are wheelchair accessible, nameplate on the station, on the passenger runway, and in passenger cars clearly indicates accessibility options. In addition, each carriage has one or more Train Hosts available to provide assistance that may be required, including placement of ramps for wheelchair boarding (if necessary). In accordance with the Clean Air Act of Utah and UTA regulations, smoking is prohibited on UTA vehicles as well as UTA bus stops, TRAX stations, and FrontRunner stations and all other UTA properties.

History

The work began at the beginning of the line (from Salt Lake City to Ogden) in 2005. Seven of the eight stations are planned to open for motorists on April 26, 2008. Eight other stations open on December 10, 2012.

Fun View

The station at Pleasant View was supposed to open along with the rest of the tracks in April 2008, but repairs on Union Pacific's joint lane were postponed when rail workers were diverted to repair damaged lanes near Oakridge, Oregon. Only bus services were used between Ogden and Pleasant View until September 29, 2008, when the track repairs were completed.

Union Pacific limits FrontRunner to one train to the south in the morning and one to the north in the late afternoon after the Pleasant View station is opened for rail traffic. Riders are required to move from one train to the other at Ogden Intermodal Transmodal Center. In January 2009, it was upgraded to three trains for every morning and afternoon, with one train traveling in each direction, although the other two still require transfer between railways.

Service to Pleasant View temporarily ends September 6, 2011. FrontRunner trains can only be run four times a day to Pleasant View because it shares a path with Union Pacific; low passengers exacerbate the problem. The commuter service is limited only on weekdays to Pleasant View resumed on December 10, 2012 with two trains picking up passengers in the morning and two trains bringing down passengers at night. However, there is no need for transfers between trains, as is sometimes the case in the past. Nonetheless, the service comes with a regular bus running between Pleasant View and Ogden Transit Transit Center for the morning and afternoon on weekdays.

In February 2018, UTA announced that it would suspend FrontRunner trains between Ogden and Pleasant View on August 12, 2018 due to new federal safety guidelines and low riders to the station.

FrontRunner South

Utah is the second fastest growing country in the United States. The UTA rail extension is designed to specifically address the growing transport needs. 44 miles (71 km) has been added to the FrontRunner line with the opening of the southern extension, which refers to UTA as FrontRunner South . The extension extends the southern end of Salt Lake Central (Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub) to Provo Station. The expansion of UTA and the addition of the FrontRunner South rail successfully met UTA's goal of increasing transportation opportunities for those living along the Wasatch Front and reducing traffic congestion caused by the growing transportation needs of the population. Seven new stations were built in Murray, South Jordan, Draper, Lehi, American Fork, Orem, and Provo. The Utah Transit Authority began work on the line after the groundbreaking ceremony on August 12, 2008 and the service began in the new section on December 10, 2012. The funds were adjusted to accommodate the project in 2006 through a sales tax increase referendum, and Remaining funds were obtained through a letter of intent signed with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on September 24, 2007.

After opening for service on December 10, 2012, initial forecasts from motorists for FrontRunner South exceed expectations. UTA anticipates about 6,800 motorists per day, but during the first week of operation, UTA reported more than 7,800 motorists per day. However, UTA also suggests that it is not entirely unexpected because there is usually a large number of riders when the line opens before a long-term pattern of regular passengers is established. At the same time FrontRunner South opened for North Temple Bridge/Guadalupe service, a new infill station on the previous lane, also opened.

FrontRunner South opened with service to Utah County at about the same time as the completed CORE I-15 project (which is rebuilding I-15 along many of the same corridors as FrontRunner South.) Both projects add substantial transportation improvements to the Utah Region.

Lehi City continues to investigate options to build flyovers or underpasses to separate rail traffic from Main Street vehicle traffic, although this status is not possible because project costs will exceed twenty million dollars. Since initial planning for FrontRunner South, two additional east-west alternative routes in Lehi have been opened that have no crossings in the classroom for rail traffic: 2100 North (SR-85) and Pioneer Crossing (SR-145).

Future extensions

The future extension is divisible which will eventually cover over 135 miles (217 km) along the Wasatch Front, providing services as far north of Brigham City and as far south as Nephi. UTA has a special plan to expand FrontRunner farther south to Payson and has had the required railway for several years. However, one of the main reasons for not including further extensions in the construction of FrontRunner South is that a flying crossing should be built just southeast of Provo Station to allow FrontRunner to cross into the Union Pacific lane in the immediate area. The location of the station at Brigham City is likely to be on a railway line near the Brigham City Depot that is no longer in use at 900 West Forest Street, with an additional station in Willard east of I-15 about 750 North. Station locations in Springville are estimated at around 1500 West and 450 South. Heading south from the area will be connected to the railroad owned by UTA (Tintic Branch). The Utah Transportation Department (UDOT) has announced that accommodation for the FrontRunner station in west I-15 is included in the overall plan for a new exchange at Spanish Fork Center Street. Station locations in Payson are estimated to be west of I-15 about 800 South. As with all existing FrontRunner and TRAX stations, all FrontRunner front extensions will be integrated with the UTA bus system.

Route

FrontRunner is set as UTA 750 Route.

The entire route is built within the existing Union Pacific corridor and the FrontRunner track runs parallel to the Union Pacific line, sometimes in the east and sometimes in the west. Both times FrontRunner switched to the side with Union Pacific footsteps crossing over the Union Pacific line. Except for the northernmost part, FrontRunner operates on its own special track.

Calm Zone

The entire length of the FrontRunner corridor (including the southern extension) has been approved as a "Calm Zone" by the Federal Rail Administration. "Usually, federal railway safety rules require all train operators to honk their horns for 15 to 20 seconds as they approach each intersection." Basically the Calm Zone designation removes this requirement. However, for obvious safety reasons, they are not forbidden to honk their horns, if necessary. The Quiet Zone applies to all trains (including freight trains) in the same corridor. Each city along the route should individually apply for appointment, but UTA provides substantial assistance with the process. Some safety improvements should be made at all public crossings to receive the Calendar Zone approval. In addition to normal automatic warning bells and lights, required upgrades include junction guards, warning signs that trains do not ring horns in the area, and raise the median (which prevents cars driving around lower gates). There are also additional security features for pedestrians. Before the southern extension, FrontRunner has the longest Quiet Zone in the country - southern extensions double the length of the previous Calm Zone.

Utah County

The southern Terminus FrontRunner is currently located in the city of Provo, with the southernmost station is Provo. Although the station's official address is 690 South University Avenue (US-189), it is actually located between 200 West and South University Avenue on the south side of FrontRunner and Union Pacific railways that run directly south south 600. The station is also just southwest of Amtrak's Provo Station, which is a stop for California Zephyr. (Though this station is the southern terminal, the FrontRunner track continues east for nearly half a mile.) Head west from this station, FrontRunner crosses 200 West (Freedom Boulevard) 500 West and 700 West before turning north. After crossing 900 West in 500 South, it leads northwest to cross under West Center Street (SR-114) east of the I-15/Center Street intersection. Then cross the Draper Lane before crossing over the Riverway lane of Provo and Provo Riverways. Continue northwest across 820 North in 1950 West and then cross under the "S curve" of I-15. Walk along the west side of I-15 across North 1680 in 2550 West, 2800 West in south 2000 North, and 2000 North (Provo grid)/2000 South (Orem grid) west of 2800 West. In North 2000, FrontRunner left Provo and briefly entered Utah County without association.

Continuing northwest, FrontRunner leaves Utah County and enters the town of Orem in 1550 South before crossing under the West University Parkway (SR-265) just west of the I-15/University Parkway intersection. At 900 South 1350 West, reach the next station, Orem. The station is located on the west side of I-15 from most of the Utah Valley University campuses. From this station (while I-15 leads directly to the north) FrontRunner maintains its northwest line, crossing 800 South in 1300 West and then 400 South and Geneva Road (1600 West/SR-114) respectively. After crossing the Geneva Road, FrontRunner leaves Orem and enters the town of Vineyard. Continuing northwest, with Vineyard Road briefly walking on the western side of the rail and former Geneva Steel spot in the east, finally reaches the location where the future station, Vineyard, will be built around 4700 North and 3100 West. Drive further northwest, across Vineyard Road (5200 North/600 South) in 2000 West.

After crossing the Vineyard Road, FrontRunner leaves the Vineyard, enters Lindon town, and briefly passes the northeastern edge of Lake Utah currently on its northwest lane. FrontRunner then left Lindon and briefly entered Utah County again before entering the American Fork city at 1500 South and 700 East (6400 North and 5050 West on the Utah County grid). Maintaining its northwestward direction along the American Fork city limits, FrontRunner transitions between American Fork and Utah County without association several times before finally entering the city of Lehi. After crossing 1100 South at 425 East (5350 West on the Utah County grid), 5750 West at 7250 North (100 East at 575 South on the American Fork grid), and 100 West at 375 South, FrontRunner started curving toward the nearly mature west path because it is parallel to I-15. Then across Storrs Avenue (about 265 West in 250 South) followed by 200 South in 390 West before reaching the next station, American Fork. The address of this station is 782 West 200 South (7750 on the Utah County grid).

Continuing, FrontRunner enters Lehi before crossing Spring Creek and then directly under the junction of Pioneer Crossing (SR-145) and Mill Pond Road (850 East). This briefly changed back to Utah County before crossing South Center Street in 560 South and entering Lehi once more. Then the curve toward the short north as it crosses 200 South and West Main Street (SR-73), both in 400 West. In the North 100 (as it passes the Lehi Round-up Rodeo Grounds to the west), the bend returns to the previous northwest lane and crosses 500 West (SR-197) at 330 North. Continue the journey northwest, transition FrontRunner between Lehi City and Utah Utah several times before finally leaving Utah County. After crossing the Ditch Wastes, across the North 900 at 1030 West and 1500 North (960 North on the Utah County grid) in 1630 West. It then crosses 2100 newly constructed North (Mountain View Corridor/SR-85) in 2050 West and then over 2300 West in North 2275 as it approaches the Thanksgiving Point.

With Drive Park in the immediate west, reach the next station, Lehi, in the middle of Thanksgiving Point (about 3100 North and 2800 West). The address given by this station is 3101 North Ashton Boulevard, but also accessible directly from Executive Parkway. Right after the station had crossed under Clubhouse Drive and then passed eastward from Thanksgiving Point Gardens before curling west and entering Jordan Narrows. Upon passing the Jordan Narrows, the river is parallel to the Jordan River in the south, with Camp Williams on the far side of the river to the west. Upon passing Jordan Narrows, FrontRunner also leaves Lehi and Utah County and enters Salt Lake County.

The Jordan Narrows is the most beautiful area along the FrontRunner route and includes sights that can not be easily seen (especially from I-15). But this stretch, including the north, is also one of the most difficult to build. Before construction there was only a very narrow passage occupied by Union Pacific tracks used several times each day. In addition, some irrigation canals should be re-routed.

Salt Lake County

When passing through Jordan Narrows, FrontRunner enters Salt Lake County and the town of Bluffdale as well. Upon leaving Jordan Narrows, this turn turns north as it passes east of Dam Turner and the pumping station while crossing the Jordan East Canal and the Jordan River. Then curved westward as it continued between the Jordan River to the east and 985 West and Utah and Salt Lake Canal in the west. It then curved north again as it passes just west of the Dam Bersama and then across the South Jordan Canal. Then cross the Jordan River and then Jordan and the Salt Lake City Canal. Continuing north, and slightly eastward, it parallels the South Jordan Canal, the South Jordan Canal Line, and the Jordan River to the west and 1300 West in the east to about 15300 South. Then curve to the northeast and cross 1300 West in 15175 South. Defending the northeast post, FrontRunner crosses over 14600 South (SR-140) at 1055 West and, just before crossing the Bangerter Highway (SR-154) in 765 West, he leaves Bluffdale and enters the town of Draper.

Upon entering the Draper, it continues northeastward to about 13250 South, where it curves northward and reaches the next station, Draper at 12997 South FrontRunner Boulevard. From that station, he continues north, crossing over 12300 South (SR-71) at 540 West, before curving slightly east again. Around 11,800 South crosses an anonymous farm road before proceeding to cross below 11400 South (SR-175) around 375 West. After crossing below 11400 South leave Draper and enter the city of South Jordan.

Continuing north, and still a little east, FrontRunner crosses the South Jordan Gateway (about 10900 South and 350 West) and then crosses the South Jordan Parkway (10600 South/SR-151) and Jerry Seiner Road at 290 West before reaching the next station, South Jordan at 10351 South Jordan Gateway. The station is located on the west side of I-15 from the South Towne Center Mall. From this station, curves curve north and slightly west before crossing 10000 South at 375 West. Then turn north, and a little east, as you leave South Jordan and enter the town of Sandy.

Right after entering Sandy, he crossed over to the eastern side of the Union Pacific track at a flying crossing. Then continue north, and a little eastward, as it crosses the 9400 South in 445 West and then traverses over 9120 South in 435 West. After crossing over 9000 South (SR-209) at 425 West, it curved back again to the north, and slightly to the west and then parallel to the direct west side of I-15. Maintaining this course leaves Sandy and enters the town of Midvale at 8500 South and 410 West. Continuing on the same title, and still between Union Pacific and I-15 lines, crossing over Wasatch Drive (8000 South) at 200 West and then on West Center Street (7720 South) at 450 West. After West Center Street, turn back north again, and slightly east, and then cross Jordan River Boulevard (7200 South/SR-151) at 560 West and continue, past Union Pacific base in the west, until it traverses below I -15 on the road from east I-215 (Route Belt) as well as I-15 in 400 West.

Right after crossing under I-15, FrontRunner left Midvale and entered the town of Murray. After crossing the TRAX Red Line at the other crossroads and Winchester Street (6670 South) at 735 West right after the Red Line. Following Winchester Street, it crossed below I-15 road leading north to I-215 to the west, crossing I-215 to the east and I-215 to the west (including I-215 lane to west towards I-15) at 365 West. Then the curve goes back north before crossing the 5900 South in the 350 West. In the South 5600 it curved once more to the north, and slightly to the east, and joined the TRAX Blue Line and the Red Line track on the east side as they all crossed over 5400 South (SR-173/Spartan Street).

Just northeast of the 5,400 South crossings is the next station, Murray Central. This station is a transfer station to TRAX Blue and Red Lines, and the first of just three transfer stations between FrontRunner and TRAX. The FrontRunner section of the station is located at 140 West Vine Street (5990 South) and the TRAX part of the station is at 5144 South Cottonwood Street; both located west of the Intermountain Medical Center. The TRAX platform is just east of the FrontRunner platform. (The TRAX Blue Line stretches north toward Salt Lake City City Center and south to Draper. The TRAX Red Line runs north to the University of Utah and south to Daybreak Community in South Jordan.)

After this station, the TRAX line moves further east while FrontRunner continues north, and slightly to the east, as it crosses Vine Road and then curves north. Continue north leaving Murray and enter Salt Lake County before crossing Little Littlewood Creek and then crossing 4800 South (Murray Taylorsville Road) at 175 West. At 4500 South and 190 West crosses 4500 South Frontage Road and soon after that it crosses over 4500 South (SR-266/Taylorville Expressway). Then curved northward, and a little westward, up the Big Cottonwood Creek. After crossing West Central Avenue in 250 West, traverse under 3900 South (Meadowbrook Expressway) in 300 West. After crossing below 3900 South it leaves an unrelated Salt Lake County and enters the city of South Salt Lake.

Continuing on the northbound path, and slightly to the west, FrontRunner crosses back below I-15 and then traverses over 3300 South (SR-266) in 470 West. After crossing Mill Creek it curves back north as it passes along the east side of the Union Pacific rail page. At the north end of the rail yard on the cross under the TRAX Green Line at another crossroads before crossing under the Spaghetti Bowl (which includes SR-201 [21st South Freeway] eastward on the sloping ramp to I-15/I-80 Northbound, SR -201 head east on the way to I-15 southbound/I-80 to the east, I-15 to the north/I-80 westward on the road to SR-201, I-15/I-80 southbound on the way to SR-201, and finally SR-201 [21 South Expressway]) around 625 West. After crossing under SR-201, FrontRunner leaves South Salt Lake and enters Salt Lake City.

Continue north at 625 West, FrontRunner crosses South 1700, and then cross below 1300 South before crossing below I-15/I-80 before crossing 900 South. Still in 625 West, after crossing the 800 South, crossing below I-15/I-80 north and I-15 south/I-80 toward east to south 600 (SR-269 to east/Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard) and then 500 South (SR-269 direction west/Cesar E Chavez Boulevard) on the road to I-15/I-80. Then cross below 400 South (University Boulevard) before curling slightly to the west and reaching Salt Lake Central (Salt Lake Intermodal Hub). This station is a transfer station to TRAX Blue Line, and the second of just three transfer stations between FrontRunner and TRAX. FrontRunner's section of this station is located at 250 South 600 West and TRAX section at 325 South 600 West. The TRAX platform is just east of the FrontRunner platform. (Salt Lake Central is the north end for the TRAX Blue line, which runs south to the Draper.) Salt Lake Central is also an Amtrak Station and other stops at Amtrak California Zephyr.

From Salt Lake Central, FrontRunner continues north and slightly west, and crosses 200 South in 660 West. In the South 100, turn sharply east, but slightly north, up across 600 West on West South Temple Street. Then turn north to cross below West North Temple Street at 490 West. Immediately after crossing below Viaduct Road North Temple reaches the next station, North Temple Bridge/Guadalupe. (This station name is often abbreviated by UTA to North Temple). This station is a transfer station to TRAX Green Line, and the last of only three transfer stations between FrontRunner and TRAX. Both platforms are located at 500 West North Temple Street. However, the TRAX platform is located above the Viaduct of North Temple Road and access between the two platforms is done using a ladder or escalator connecting the north side of Temple Street North Road with the southern end of FrontRunner platform. Although both platforms are considered "in class", the station is still considered a crossroads because the TRAX track passes through FrontRunner and Union Pacific trails. (The TRAX Green Line stretches west to Salt Lake City International Airport and southwest to West Valley City via Downtown Salt Lake City.)

From the North Temple/Guadalupe Bridge, FrontRunner continues north along the eastern side of the West 500 as it crosses North and North 400. At 500 North, 500 West shifts to the east side of the track without actually crossing them. Continuing northwards, FrontRunner crosses below 600 North (SR-268) and 900 North curved to the northwest as it passes the northeast side of the Warm Springs Service Center (UTA maintenance facility for FrontRunner). On the north side of the Service Center is a non-public access access road access that crosses FrontRunner tracks. Continuing northwest, it stretches along the eastern side of Union Pacific railway station until it passes near the corner of Chicago Street and Duluth Avenue and turns north. After crossing the North 1800, he crosses back under the I-15 once again for a short walk on the western side of Southbound Beck Street (US-89) to the east. Around 2400 Norths leave Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County and cross into Davis County.

Davis County

Upon entering Davis County, FrontRunner also entered the city of North Salt Lake. Continue north across the eastern I-215 and then west of I-215 before curling slightly east and across West Center Street in the 125 West. Keeping the path north and a little east, it runs very short along the west side of I-15 and then crosses North Main Street at 900 North and 1100 North/2600 South in 75 East. After crossing 2600 South leave North Salt Lake and enter the town of Woods Cross. It still retains its path north and slightly to the east, crossing 1500 South in 900 West and then curves slightly further east before reaching the next station, Woods Cross, at 750 South 800 West. From this station continues on the northeast path as it leaves Woods Cross and enters the town of West Bountiful.

Right after entering West Bountiful, FrontRunner crosses 500 South (SR-68) at 800 West. Then cross Mill Creek and cross the non-public utility road before crossing below 400 North in 650 West. After crossing below 400 North and still very parallel to the west side I-15 it continues to the northeast and then north curve around 1400 North. Then across West Pages Lane (North 1600) in 520 West. At 2200 North he leaves West Bountiful and enters the town of Centerville as he continues north along the west side of the I-15 and crosses under Parrish Lane (400 North/SR-105). Around 1300 North, the Legacy Parkway (SR-67) begins running along the west side of the FrontRunner track. Continuing northward (between Legacy Parkway and I-15), he left Centerville and entered Farmington town at 2300 North (grid Centreville)/1700 South (Farmington grid).

Upon entering Farmington, FrontRunner crosses under East Glovers Lane (925 South) at 210 West before curling slightly to the west. Continue north and a little west, but still between Legacy Parkway and I-15, traverse under the Farmington Creek Trail and then under West State Street at 390 West. Then turn to northwest as it passes to the southwest of the I-15/Legacy Parkway/US-89 intersection as it crosses under the north path from the Legacy Parkway to US-89, the south road from US-89 to Legacy Parkway, Legacy North Parkway, and Legacy Parkway south. After crossing under the intersection, immediately reach the next station, Farmington, at 450 West 800 North. At the northwest end of the station it crosses under a pedestrian bridge (which allows passengers to cross to FrontRunner and Union Pacific tracks that run between station passenger platforms and station parking lots). It then crosses below 1100 North at 825 West as it continues to the northwest along the west side of I-15 and crosses under West Shephard Lane (1200 North) in 1725 West.

Right after crossing below 1200 North, FrontRunner left Farmington and entered the town of Kaysville. Continuing along the western side of the I-15 it gradually curves toward almost the north and crosses under South Burton Lane in about 100 West and 1350 South. Continuing northwest it briefly runs along the west side of the I-15 as it crosses over North Fork Holmes Creek and leaves Kaysville before entering the town of Layton. Immediately after crossing under Layton Parkway reach the next station, Layton at 150 South Main Street. Then cross the Kays Creek before crossing West Gentile Street at 220 West, King Street (650 West) at 260 North, Hill Field Road/Industrial Park Drive at 1120 West and 725 North, and West Gordon Avenue (1000 North) in 1450 West. After curving a little more north across the 2200 West in the 1700 North.

After crossing 2200 West, FrontRunner leaves Layton and enters the city of Clearfield. Continue northwest across on Antelope Drive (2000 North/SR-108) in 750 West. Just northwest of Antelope Drive reaches the next station, Clearfield, at 1250 South State Street (SR-126. From this station continue to the northwest to cross the 700 South in 255 East and then cross over West Center Street in the 125 West. After crossing over at down North 300 (SR-107) at 440 West curved to the north and crossed below 800 North in 515 West After crossing below 800 North he left Clearfield and entered Clinton town Head north immediately west of the border between Clinton and Sunset City crossing 1300 North, 1800 North (SR-37), and 2300 North, all in 480 West. After crossing 2300 North is a bit curve to the west and then leave Clinton and Davis County and enter Weber County.

Weber County

Upon entering Weber County, FrontRunner also entered the town of Roy, but soon to walk west of the border between Roy and Sunset to cross 6000 South at 2450 West. Continue north and slightly west, crossing below 5600 South (SR-987) in 2550 West before curving back north and a very short walk along the east side of West 2700. After crossing 4800 South at 2700 West, turn to the northeast before reaching the next station, Roy, at 4155 South Sandridge Drive. Right after this station crosses 4000 South in 2400 West and continues northeast to cross under Hinkley Drive (3600 South) in 2025 West and below 1900 West (SR-126) at 3460 South. Right after crossing the 1900 West, he left Roy and entered Weber County. Continue northeast across 3300 South in 1880 West and curves eastward leaving unrelated Weber County and entering the city of Ogden.

Right after entering Ogden, FrontRunner crosses under Pennsylvania Avenue (1100 West) at 3050 South. Continue east traverse under I-15/I-84 before crossing the Weber River. As soon as the Weber River curved northward and had two crossroads that allowed FrontRunner to cross into the Union Pacific line. Briefly head north past just west of Ogden's Union Station and cross below 24th Street (2400 South/SR-53) at 140 West. Immediately after crossing below 24th Street it curved to the northwest and reached the Intermodal Transit Center at 2350 South Wall Avenue. This station is the last regular service stop at the northern end of FrontRunner, with service in the north of this station very limited (two southern paths in the morning and two northern trails at night).

Driving northwest from the Ogden Intermodal Transmodal Center, FrontRunner briefly walked southeast of Pacific Avenue before another non-public crossing access road crossed the FrontRunner track as it curved northward, but slightly to the west. With more traces of Union Pacific to the west, cross east and 21st Street to the west (2100 South/SR-104) at 365 West and then across the Ogden River. Right after crossing 17th Street (1700 South) at 450 West, the turn was back north again when the FrontRunner Tracks blend in with Union Pacific owned and operated. From this northern point (except for a short stretch just before the last station), FrontRunner operates on Union Pacific tracks rather than hers. Continue north on the Union Pacific line, with A Avenue (500 West) briefly to the east, FrontRunner crosses 12th Street (1200 South/SR-39) at 500 West. With the former Ogden Defense Depot (now Ogden Business Depot) to the west, cross Mill Creek at 600 North, and then across 2nd Street (200 South) at 500 West. Defending the north path, with 520 West and then North Burns Street immediately to the west, it leaves Ogden and enters the Harrisville township in the North 100. The track marks the border between Ogden and Harrisville from the North 100 to Harrisville Road.

At 1000 North, just north of the Ogden Business Depot and to the west of the rail, there is Weber County Fairgrounds. FrontRunner continues north, but begins to curve slightly to the west and then cross West Harrisville Road at the north end of the Fairgrounds at 710 West and 1400 North. It then crosses 750 West in 1525 North and crosses West Canal at 835 West and 1750 North. Run along the eastern border of Harrisville (with parts unrelated to Weber County in the west to 2700 North), the path continues north and slightly to the west. In North 2075, FrontRunner leaves Harrisville and enters the town of Pleasant View. At 2500 North, FrontRunner tracks deviate from Union Pacific before they cross 2700 North SR-134) at 1300 West. Soon north 1300 West is the last station and north end, Pleasant View. Immediately north of the station's passenger platform, FrontRunner Tracks ends.

Tools

FrontRunner runs 11 MPXpress (MP36PH-3C) locomotives from Motive Power International from Boise, Idaho, 22 new Bombardier bi-level cars, and recently repainted 25 former New Jersey Transit shipment that entered service on September 17, 2008. Three Metra used galleries Metra is supplied to UTA for free, but they are determined to be in too bad a condition to renew, and are being discarded and used for spare parts for Comet cars.

Two months into service, UTA started receiving complaints about the number of bikes on the train. Bombardier cars are designed to hold two bikes near the rear doors of each train, but up to 15 bikes per car are reported by some riders. UTA is investigating options to increase capacity for the bike, including more lockers at the station. In January 2016, FrontRunner upgraded Bombardier Car 206 with a new bike rack. New shelves increase the number of shelves on cars from 9 to 15. UTA is currently looking for public input on new shelves.

FrontRunner North is served by 20 bi-level Bombardier cars, and will soon join 15 Comet Is, while FrontRunner South will start with eighteen Bombardier bi-level cars on order at a cost of $ 2.2 million each, and the remaining 10 comets which is refurbished. A typical FrontRunner tranet consists of five units: three cars and a locomotive. Typical orientations are: Locomotive, My Comet, Bilevel (2), and Bilevel Cab Car.

Wireless internet, provided by Nomad Digital, is available on all FrontRunner cars, including the updated Comet car for free.

Maintenance

All maintenance for FrontRunner fleets (locomotives and cars) is provided at the Warm Springs Service Center located west of the 500 West at 900 North in Salt Lake City. The Service Center facility, purchased from Union Pacific in 2003, was originally built in 1955 at the site of the former Casino City City. Union Pacific had previously stopped using the facility in 1998 after more than a decade of operating was less than capacity. After the acquisition of Union Pacific, the facility was modified and updated to meet current UTA requirements.

Operation

FrontRunner trains usually operate with a locomotive at the northern end of the train (overlooking Ogden); taxi control cars are used to operate the southern railway.

Accident

On January 24, 2017, FrontRunner trains impacted the front trailer of a double-truck FedEx double truck at the North Salt Lake crossing. The impact is enough power to destroy and split the trailer and toss its contents onto the track. The crossing lights and gates do not operate during the rail approach so there is no warning for vehicles at the intersection. Furthermore, snow and ice are present when accidents limit visibility. There were no significant injuries in the accident. A police car is on the opposite lane near the intersection with its dashboard camera active. The video of the accident was released to the media and quickly became viral. UTA investigates the incident and fires an employee after determining that he has raised the gate incorrectly without following a procedure that will make the cross safe.
