Econ Engineering Limited is a UK manufacturer of road and winter road maintenance bodies established as a supplier of agricultural equipment under the name Agriquipment Ltd on December 9, 1959, by W. George Lupton in Otley, West Yorkshire.
Econ's first prototype salt sole was completed in 1970 and the engine was launched at the 1972 IWM exhibition in Torquay. The name Econ comes from a Bradford-based company that manufactures an industrial heating unit called "Econoheat" purchased by WG Lupton to balance production while developing a salt spreader.
Built in 1980, Econ Engineering Ltd manufactures and serves all of their machines on a specially built site on the outskirts of Ripon, North Yorkshire, employing over 120 staff.
