Purina Beggin 'Strip is made from real meat but enhanced with artificial ingredients. According to Purina's Beggin 'Strip website, early bacon is preserved with sodium nitrite and BHA. Basic ingredients for additional additives include wheat, corn gluten meal, wheat flour, yellow ground corn, water, sugar, glycerin, soybean meal, hydrogenated starch hydrolysis, phosphoric acid meat, sorbic acid, natural and artificial smoke flavor. Depending on the taste, artificial coloring is also added. There are six flavors available today.

Marketing
Beggin 'Strips are mostly famous for their television commercials, starting in 1994, after they started selling their products in 1993. Shown from a dog's point of view, the pet eagerly kissed the Beggin' Strips and was convinced that he smelled the real meat, exclaimed, "That's BACON!" The dog's voice was provided by Bill Tullis. Recently, a new ad was written and voiced by the New York comedian Alex Bloom. The product slogan is "It's not time like Beggin time!"
The trademark bag for this product has a cartoon dog licking the meat while waiting for the prize. Withdrawn in 1994, the dog was named "Hamlet." Hamlet was chosen to appear in NestlÃÆ' à © Purina for Beggin 'Strips, and to represent the product.
Shortly after Beggin 'Strips initial sales, the coupon for the product was released to try to build support for the prize.
Purina has also hosted the annual Parade Pet around the time of Mardi Gras. It is held annually in Soulard, a historic French neighborhood in St. Petersburg. Louis, Missouri with more than 5,000 pets and owners present. St. Louis 'Waterloo Courier also covered the Street Dog Strip Beggin Competition on July 4, 1999. The contest offers many prizes, a grand prize of 5,000 won from Beggin' Strips per year and a trip to see the Late Show with David Letterman in New York.
Beggin 'Strip goes to social media by launching Facebook pages in 2011, and lastly in 2012, launching iPhone and iPad apps that allow users to film their own versions of famous ads.
